What is Script Workshop?

It is a form of workshop where participants produce future scenarios in order to make long-term decisions, produce future-oriented alternatives for development and ensure preparedness for emergencies.

Advantages

Used to solve complex problems
It can be spread over a long period of time.
Strengthens communication between participants
Increases participants' ability to empathize

Disadvantages

The event takes a long time.
It requires detailed steps and research.

How is the Script Workshop Planned?

STEP 1: Creation of the scenario team: A creative and knowledgeable executive team that generates ideas is formed.

STEP 2: Gathering opinions and information

STEP 3: Determination of the focal topic: The general topic is narrowed down and a clear period is determined for the main study topic and future plan (like 10 years, 30 years...)

STEP 4: Identifying key local-level factors affecting the issue: what are the key factors for the issue's success or failure? The question must be asked. These factors can be identified using another participatory method.

STEP 5: Identification of general-level factors: Social, environmental, economic, technological, political and value constrained factors are identified.

STEP 6: Ranking the main factors: rank the factors according to importance and uncertainty. Participatory methods can also be used while ranking.

STEP 7: Selecting the drivers: The first 3 or 4 of the listed factors are identified and graphed as the relevant drivers. The 4 sections in the created graphic represent 4 different scenarios. Scenarios are designed considering the changing driving forces.

STEP 8: Preparing the scenarios: the team prepares the future scenarios as a result of the obtained data, potentials and researches.

STEP 9: Checking the application status: Check the feasibility, strengths and weaknesses of the scenarios.

STEP 10: Identifying the indicators of the scenarios: Each scenario will have an indicator to distinguish it from the others. These indicators are the events that will cause the scenario to come true.

STEP 11: Making the scenarios public: Possible future scenarios are presented in a way that allows for public voting and feedback.

STEP 12: Turn scenarios into plans: The ideas given in creating the scenario can be used for decision making.
